1.
I could never find my place Despite drawing in negative space Color in the lines I trace The old palettes bleed & scan lines race You could never find your place Exposing your film disintegrates Contemplate your fall from grace I wish I could reach to touch your face
2.
3.
She gets your pulse moving up faster Higher than most These are the feelings that you’re after She makes you float You’re my industrial disaster Chernobyl ghost But when you put me out to pasture Devour the host I keep on chasing you across both space and time Shadows in my mind I keep on running but you never look behind Shadows in my mind
4.
We’ve come to smash the cops Search & destroy the rot Pull down the rich from top Our guillotine’s got chops
5.
The Baron 04:44
Listen to the sounds you make in front of me Reach into your face & lay them plain Keep it in the place I left your memories Sticking to my gums & naked brain I could never see your pain
6.
Blood Comb 05:08
7.
I’ve been living a long time Without your “no’s” Now I’m loving the rest of it And it shows Is it always a bad time? Weeping grows I can only remain here Decomposed I don’t feel anything now And if only you’d come to me If you had tried Then we might’ve repelled the seas Survived An emotional entropy Chooses sides If another one comes my way I don’t know which way I’ll slide
8.
Come in here, dear boy, we’ll let you feel it You could be one of us here today Caviar and limousines, believe it You could be a millionaire one day Give us your dreams Something’s got to give Oh, those huddled masses stuck beneath us? Come on, aren’t you more deserving, bro? You can sell their futures, they can’t defeat us Only one percent can get to grow

about

TREPANATION is the latest album from Richard Haig (and his first since retiring the Panic Bomber moniker). Mostly written in San Francisco during the COVID lockdown, the album consists of dancefloor-adjacent music interspersed with both personally introspective and outwardly political lyrics. The feel of the album trends toward dark, moody songwriting with powerful yet detailed sound design. There are subtle threads of humor throughout the lyrics & music, suggesting that while Richard takes his art seriously, he also has a lot of fun making it.

The title, Trepanation, means to open up a hole in one's head. Historically this was used by mystics to supposedly release cantankerous spirits or maladies. Here it is being used as a gallows humor way of saying, "Keep an open mind."

Richard collaborated with Eli Woods on a music video for “Negative Space,” shot on location in the Bay Area, which combines crisp digital footage with gritty analog processing for a unique look which perfectly matches the song.
